Fall DUI enforcement efforts are currently underway in Colorado, as the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state kicked off the fall The Heat Is On campaign last month.

Drivers beware – there is a statewide DUI crackdown running in CO through Oct., a Colorado Springs DUI attorney explains. Here are other CO DUI crackdowns planned for 2015.

Running through Monday Oct. 26th, this fall DUI crackdown will reportedly involve a combination of the following over the next few weeks:

  • Sobriety checkpoints
  • Saturation patrols
  • Additional on-duty officers “dedicated to impaired driving enforcement,” as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) explains.

Commenting on this enforcement effort, Col. Scott Hernandez, Chief of the CSP, has explained:

With the arrival of fall, we tend to see an increase in impaired driving due to alcohol-related events like Oktoberfest and football season, among other factors…We realize people want to have a good time, and that is fine, but drinkers must be responsible and never get behind the wheel impaired.

Darrell Lingk, Director of the CDOT’s Office of Transportation Safety, expressed similar concerns regarding impaired driving, along with the importance of DUI enforcement campaigns, stating that:

Even one alcohol or drug impaired driver is one too many and serves as a reminder of the importance of education and enforcement…CDOT’s The Heat Is On campaign helps keep Coloradans safe from those that act irresponsibly and put others at risk.

Head’s Up, Motorists: A Few More DUI Crackdowns Planned for 2015

While the fall DUI crackdown will pretty much span the month of October, all drivers should be aware that CDOT, CSP and local law enforcement agencies still have a handful of DUI enforcement campaigns planned for the rest of 2015, only some of which include those planned for:

  • Halloween Weekend (from 10/30 through 11/2)
  • Thanksgiving (from 11/25 through 11/30)
  • The entire month of December.

Knowing that authorities plan on keeping a close watch on the roads through the end of 2015, make sure you plan ahead if you plan on drinking alcohol away from home.
